Dr. Moore`s speech on revenge focused on David`s life. David of David and the fame of Goliath, that is. The guy who was a shepherd and was with a single slingshot because he had both sight and movement was able to defeat his well-protected, visually impaired and heavily armored opponent. Goliath was so depressed by all the armor that protected him that he couldn`t move to go into battle! David had many enemies, and one of them was the father of his best friend Saul. God had promised David that God would not crush Saul by any of David`s hands, and so David did not take advantage of the multiple opportunity to destroy Saul. This earned David a lot of respect. His allies watched him suffer and wait, and sometimes both. David was sitting in a cave with his enemy completely exposed and did nothing against Saul. Mark`s words, «Your best story doesn`t come from the crown you wear, but from the cave you live in,» recognized that revenge is a just cause.
People want to «get it right.» But as the apostle Paul said, «Take no revenge. but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: «It is for me to take revenge; I will pay him back, says the Lord. Another form of gentle revenge is to prove the person wrong if it undermines your abilities. For example, if someone is chatting about you at work, stay silent and focus on the work for a promotion or raise.
There are, of course, instances where you may need to take direct action, such as tracking someone who has been stolen from you. Although tempting, resist the urge to take matters into your own hands and call the police or talk to a lawyer instead.
