Capilano University Legal Administrative Assistant

For more than four decades, our theoretical and practical legal education, taught by experienced lawyers and legal professionals, has led thousands of students to careers with growth potential. The full-time on-site option, which has two terms, offers classroom tutorials and hands-on training using software and books used in the legal industry. Paralegals work with lawyers to interview clients, draft legal documents, conduct legal research, and assist with litigation preparation. Legal Administrative Assistants provide essential bureaucratic support to ensure the smooth running of law firms. I highly recommend taking the course in Capilano. I have been in the legal industry for almost a decade and have heard many lawyers over the years say that Capilano is the certificate of choice and that VCC will be the second only in the coming years. Capilano is intense, but I thought it was worth it. Students must submit official high school and university or college transcripts for admission. The Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) certificate program at CapU offers students an exciting career in the legal industry. The law is a global domain that shapes our daily lives. CapU`s School of Legal Studies equips students for careers in administrative and paralegal services at law firms and a number of other employers. For students who have already completed post-secondary education, even if you have submitted a digital copy of your transcripts on EducationPlannerBC, you must submit official university or college transcripts for transfer credits. You leave CapU with ready-to-use skills. Career opportunities in the legal field are diverse and interesting – from law firms, government agencies and corporate legal services to non-profit organizations. We accept photocopies of transcripts if they have been certified by the authoritative university or college official. Notarized copies are not acceptable. CapU`s School of Legal Studies has been training lawyers for over 40 years and is a recognized leader in providing educational services to paralegals and paralegals. Paralegals and legal administrative assistants are essential to the day-to-day operations of law firms. One of the paralegals I worked with taught in VCC`s paralegal program and told me she was leaving because she thought the slope was going down and felt compelled to overtake people who couldn`t meet the standards. For the paralegal program, Capilano and VCC are the only ones to be fully recognized. I would choose 100% Cap for that.

You can do the LAA first, then the part-time evening program for paralegals, or you can go straight to the paralegals and do a longer full-time program. This might be worth considering if you are interested in working as a paralegal. The Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate Program provides training in traditional administrative skills and legal procedures. Students may also submit photocopies of academic documents that have been reviewed by the issuing authority. These authorities include the Ministry of Education, the Gymnasium, the University or College, the Apostille* or the competent examination board. I don`t think that in your situation, you have the chance to come to LAA at VCC without first completing the Admin Assistant program. Contact VCC and find out. At first, it seemed like a waste of time to do administrative assistant, especially since I was told at the time that there was a one-year waiting list for the administration assistant program. I expect it will actually be faster for you to just do LAA in Douglas or Cape Town than VCC. Before completing your certificate, you will gain practical experience in a law firm or legal department that works with, mentorship and experience with lawyers, paralegals and administrative legal assistants. At CapU, our instructors are a mix of practicing lawyers and legal experts who can provide the ideas and training that only experienced lawyers can provide.

And because they are in close contact with the legal community, they cover the latest developments in law and call on high-level speakers from the industry. Students who complete LGST 127 and LGST 128 in the Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate and are subsequently accepted into the Paralegal Certificate, Paralegal Diploma or Bachelor of Legal Studies (Paralegal) will receive a credit for LAW 115. You`ve already sent digital copies of your transcripts to EducationPlannerBC as part of your Ucit application, but we also need physical copies of your official high school, college or university transcripts. Hi, I know this was posted 2 years ago, but unfortunately the post didn`t provide much information! I would like to take the Legal Administration Assistant course at Vancouver Community College or Capilano University. VCC: 5-month program and $2,500 (requirement: VCC professional administration course or 1 year of administration experience) Capilano: 8-month program $5,600 If someone can share their experience with one of these schools (or even hearsay), I would appreciate it! Thank you:) I was told that Douglas` LAA program is more practical and Capilanos more theoretical. Note: All applicants from British Columbia must submit their grades to CapU through the British Columbia Ministry of Education to Student Transcript Services (STS). Please do so as soon as possible. I went with Douglas. The program was good, the classes were cheaper than Cap (I don`t know if this is still true), I got a job directly from school, I liked it first before it became the job out of hell, I worked for a while after that in a medium-sized company downtown, then I stopped working in law for various reasons (some work-related, some don`t). For the official publication of programs, course descriptions and admission requirements, please read the Capilano University calendar (pdf).

I am very passionate about immigration and I was hoping to work for the federal government in the context of immigration. I also had my fair share of problems with teaching. For example, I graduated from Alberta, but I went abroad to teach. My teaching licence expired because I have never taught in Alberta. I love teaching, but I prefer to be trained in another field right now while I`m still young. Are you applying as a national student or as an international student? If you are returning to CapU to complete your program or apply for a new program, please contact the Office of the Registrar. These courses are designed as guidelines. Talk to your guidance counsellor to find out what courses are offered at your school.

In the programme you will learn about basic procedures for civil and family proceedings, wills and estates, company law, transfer and seizure. I do mine entirely online at UFV; I didn`t graduate until August, but I`ve already been hired at a mid-sized company downtown that I absolutely love. Having it online was great for me as I could still work (before Covid, of course) while I was in school full time. Get a detailed breakdown of your program`s tuition and fees. CapU`s Legal Administrative Assistant program has three ways to study: Faculty of Business and Professional Studies School of Legal Studies Plan ahead of this calendar with important program information events and open days. The Capilano course seems much broader and useful, but I wonder if the extra 3 months at school and the doubling of fees are worth it. It`s also in North Vancouver, which I`m not too passionate about since I`m going to live downtown. We are here to support you every step of the way. Discover the Learning Commons – an area where all students can gain confidence by mastering course materials and learning new skills. Our specialized support centers include: I think both VCC and Cap use textbooks for their LAA programs written by Titus Yip, who teaches at Douglas. Learn about your advocacy program and learn about upcoming events, workshops, virtual and personal campus tours. You`ll also gain hands-on experience through a two-week internship at a private law firm or government agency.

All new CapU students can finance their education with an entrance fee. Oh, it`s amazing! Did you apply for a job during the course? I just picked it up and it`s over $7500 for the course? Office of the RegistrarBodying Equipment, Room BR2302055 Purcell WayNorth Vancouver, BCV7J 3H5. I would love to go to VCC as it`s half the price and downtown; However, I wonder if anyone has the course without having completed the professional course and without working in an administration office. I`ve worked as a teacher before, so I`m pretty confident with office procedures, but I don`t know if I`ll be admitted because I didn`t work as a receptionist or attend the other course, which costs $2,500 more.
