In addition to our student courses, the Legal Design Lab also works with legal organizations to train them in design thinking, develop new initiatives, conduct user testing, and plan how to bring innovation to their organization. Design thinking is the process of creating solutions through the lens of the user and applying methods that may not be obvious from the initial understanding and underlying assumptions of a desirable solution. The design process attempts to break rigid thought patterns and is not intended to presuppose or assume the solution of a problem. It follows a completely user-centric process. Stakeholders in the legal industry (clients, lawyers, students, lay people, society and its systems and institutions) can all benefit from legal design. Hagan suggests the law needs to be more user-friendly, accessible and easier to understand. It should strive to promote user-centred innovation and research. Margaret is a lecturer at Stanford`s d.school and a member of the Stanford Law Center on the Legal Profession and works to bridge the gap between law and design. The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) is a funding and development agency for Singapore`s legal industry. Tom holds a JD from Stanford with a background in legal operations and management consulting. Prior to law school, Tom was a partner in legal operations at Google, where he led cross-functional projects focused on legal technology, knowledge management and process improvement. Prior to Google, Tom worked in the federal practice of Deloitte Consulting with a focus on health technology.

Tom currently supports the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC), a non-profit group dedicated to setting standards and best practices in legal services of all sizes around the world. At Stanford, Tom is co-director of the International Refugee Assistance Project and OutLaw, in addition to his participation in the Legal Design Lab. Tom graduated in 2012 from American University with a bachelor`s degree in political science and law and society. Jane Wong was the lab`s post-JD fellow in 2017-18. She has worked on innovations in access to justice, with a focus on better coordinated legal services in the San Francisco Bay Area.
