English for Legal Professionals is designed for intermediate to advanced English speakers who wish to improve their English skills to succeed in law-oriented careers. Participants include practicing lawyers, judges, pre-LL.M. Students, business people and those preparing for the U.S. Law Orientation Program. Mr. Torres joined Debevoise in 2016. From 2011 to 2015, he was Senior M&A Counsel at Itaú Unibanco S.A., where he advised the financial conglomerate on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions in the insurance, finance and technology sectors, as well as corporate governance, private equity and fund investments. M. Torres was legal counsel at Louis Dreyfus Commodities from 2010 to 2011, advising Louis Dreyfus companies in the Latin North America region on structured transactions, trade finance and international trade, and Mexican Brazil from 2008 to 2009.

Lord. Torres was an international partner at Debevoise from 2013 to 2014. Students and professionals who study or work in the fields of business or law and who wish to improve their English by studying business law topics would benefit from this programme. This course focuses on developing skills for various business law scenarios and mastering legal and business vocabulary for effective oral and written communication. Students with a high level of intermediate or advanced English are welcome to take this course. English proficiency is determined during orientation upon the student`s arrival at UC San Diego English Language Institute (ELI). Students who do not reach the level of English required for this program will take conversation and fluency (beginner, lower intermediate and intermediate level). As pro bono counsel to the Justice Center from 2018 to 2021, Mr. Denk established and strengthened relationships with law firms, in-house legal departments, individual attorneys, students, and other stakeholders to support and staff cases and pro bono initiatives for the Justice Center`s dozens of civil law services projects. He has also worked with Justice Center colleagues and community partners to develop innovative interdisciplinary legal services programs to promote racial justice and access to justice, including the Justice Center`s robust COVID-19 response initiatives, and has developed and delivered legal training courses in various areas, including diversity, inclusion and bias elimination for pro bono lawyers.

This course guides students through the process of creating common types of contracts and contract terms. Students gain hands-on experience in drafting and reviewing contract terms. Cultural differences in drafting and negotiating contracts between countries will be examined Legal English courses complement and support your legal education while improving your written and spoken English skills. Communication Pragmatics for Lawyers will integrate the legal and non-legal content of the other LEI courses into a practical communication-based curriculum. The objective of this course is to polish students` speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills into the kind of multifaceted and communicative skills expected of lawyers working in world-class law firms, corporations, international organizations, and government agencies. Students in this course learn how to integrate the content of LEI`s general legal courses into their own English communication framework. Lord. Nonaj is an active member of FALDEF, a non-profit organization focused on helping international students with various legal issues. He has published on the crime of genocide in international criminal law. Legal English TutorialThe Legal English Tutorial will be a forum where participants will improve their conversational skills on legal topics in an informal setting. Students choose topics and materials they want to share with their classmates and have a discussion about those topics. Fellows will facilitate tutoring and comment on each student`s work.

Clara Bergnier`s area of expertise is immigration law. Clara has been with Columbus Consulting Group, a business and immigration consulting firm based in New York and San Francisco, for the past four years. Clara, first a paralegal and then head of legal affairs, recently became managing director of the New York headquarters after managing the group`s temporary office in Paris for a year. Clara has a background in French, European and international law. She obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the Catholic University of Lille (France) in 2016 with a specialization in European and International Law, followed by a Master of Laws from Fordham University School of Law in 2020 specializing in international law and justice. Clara`s admission to the New York Bar is pending. Experienced adjunct professors from USC Gould and eminent professionals from the world of business and law present interesting lectures and interactive sessions on many different legal topics. Topics covered to date have included: Mr. Nonaj has successfully established domestic companies, facilitated the issuance of visas and green cards under federal laws, and negotiated various corporate agreements.
