September 2021, after the owner of Café Fina, Murphy O`Brien, was the first legal tender operator under Affeldt from late August 2019 to March 15.
2020, COVID-19 closure. Affeldt said he had been approached by the town of Clovis to restore the Harvey House rail site. The board of trustees of the Lamy Railroad & History Museum wanted to dissolve the museum and transferred ownership of the Legal Tender building and the Pullman dining car across the street to the Winslow Arts Trust in Affeldt for free in July 2018. He had moved from Las Vegas to Santa Fe to operate legal courts, but is now returning to Las Vegas. Affeldt said he invested $2 million in improvements for Legal Tenive, including a complete kitchen overhaul. The Lamy Railroad & History Museum, then the owner of the legal tender, contacted Affeldt in 2018 after acquiring the Plaza Hotel in 2014 and the Castañeda Hotel in 2017 in receivership, largely restoring the hotel at that time. «We focus on private events,» Sinclair said. «We`ve had tremendous success with private events.» Sinclair has retired from legal tender and is now only open for dinner on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with Sunday brunch suspended until more staff are hired. The restaurant is also being renovated.
Allan Affeldt, the owner of the property, the restaurant`s largest stake and liquor license, partnered with Sotheby`s International Santa Fe broker Gary Bobolsky, who said the property, restaurant and liquor license would be listed for $2.5 million in the coming days. The Legal Tender restaurant will continue to operate on a limited scale until the property is sold, said Sean Sinclair, executive chef and co-owner of the restaurant. Aug. 20 – The Saloon & Eating House property, restaurant and Saloon & Eating House liquor license in Lamy will soon be on the market, the owner has confirmed.
